The Top 8 Nightclubs in Birmingham

29 July 2022

With three universities and one of the youngest populations in Europe, it’s no surprise that Birmingham is renowned for its nightlife.

As a student, we’re sure you’ve looked in detail at the university rankings and course offerings, but when it comes to letting your hair down there isn’t necessarily a league table to help. So, to help you weigh up the city’s nightlife here’s a list of the top 8 nightclubs in Birmingham:

Pryzm

The biggest and arguably one of Birmingham’s most famous clubbing venues, it has a reputation that lives up to its size.

With a rotation of local and international DJ’s playing the best of hip hop, R’n’B and a mash-up of other genres across 4 rooms there will be something for everyone here.

It’s known to get incredibly busy (especially on weekends) so be sure to head down early or check out their website for pre-sale tickets.

Players

You’ll find Players just down the street from Pryzm. Objectively one of the best nights in the city it has won Best Bar on Broad Street three years in a row.

Whether you’re taking it easy and having a casual drink or going all out in one of the VIP booths, this late-night cocktail bar and basement RnB club is one of the highlights of Birmingham’s club scene.

The Night Owl

A modern spin on vintage style, The Night Owl is one of Birmingham’s more memorable club nights.

Drawing inspiration from music in the 1950 -90’s there’s a heavy focus on soul and retro. Its live music nights are especially popular with students and locals alike.

The Nightingale Club

At the centre of the city’s Gay Village, it’s been one of the most popular nightclubs in Birmingham since it opened in 1999.

This venue offers a range of drinks deals and music styles – spread over 3 floors and 4 rooms, its inclusive atmosphere welcomes everyone.

Known for their outrageous Saturdays with live performers and fire breathers it’s a night you won’t forget.

Snobs

The perfect blend of great music, incredible atmosphere and cheap drinks. Its main student night is  “Big Wednesday” as well as general nights of Rehab Friday and Loaded Saturdays

When they’re not playing Indie, rock’n’roll, alt-pop and retro tunes they also show live sports for those looking for somewhere to watch the match and grab some food before a big night out in the city centre.

Tunnel Club

When it comes to nights out in Birmingham, Tunnel club leads the city’s live music scene. Nestled beneath the railway arches in the Jewellery Quarter it has seven rooms worth of music to choose from.

Aside from their regular nights (we’d highly recommend their Tuesday rock nights) they constantly release tickets online to a selection of themed and special nights.

With so much on offer in one place, it really is one of the top nightclubs in Birmingham.

Rosies

Previously known as 6 on Broad Street, Rosies offers something for everyone.

By day the cocktail bar-restaurant serves up a vast array of drinks and offers a pretty good happy hour.

And, if you need to recharge after dancing the night away in one of their 5 rooms of different music, their beer garden has a pizza shack that you can grab by the slice until 4 am.

Tektu/Lab11

In addition to their famous Freshers party that takes place at Lab11, Tektu is the city’s staple weekly Thursday student night.

Starting out as a place for friends to come together and listen to good music, they now use venues across the city for their weekly events to supply students with a range of music across genres.

Platforming local up and coming talent to DJ, they also host themed nights such as ‘psychedelic circus’ that makes for an unforgettable night.

Altura student accommodation is perfectly located in Birmingham city centre. Students calling here home benefit from being in close proximity to universities, nightlife and the rest of the city’s cultural offerings.
