So you’re moving to London for university, it’s a really exciting time for any student. However, you’ve got one major issue, “Where do I live?”
We’re here to help you make the right decision and let you know a bit about Hackney Wick. If you’re looking for quality student accommodation, Hackney wouldn’t be a bad place to start.

Green Spaces
When you think of London, tall trees and greenery usually aren’t the first things to come to mind. That being said, it’s extremely important for you to be able to go outside and get some fresh air whilst not feeling like you’re in the middle of one of the biggest urban spaces on the planet!
The most notable green space near Wick Park is Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which is so big, there’s a football ground in the centre of it! From gardening workshops, to sporting events and concerts, it’s not just the nature and greenery that will keep you coming back to this park.
For every neighbourhood like Shoreditch, there’s an equally amazing park nearby! If you feel like venturing a bit further out for your walks, the next section is for you.
Transport
Getting around a city as big as London can be daunting, especially when there are so many options.
Getting into central London is relatively easy. With the overground line operating from Hackney Wick station, you’ll be able to find a connecting tube service by simply checking
City Mapper or Google Maps.
As we’ve already mentioned, the area surrounding our student accommodation, Hackney, is close to many green spaces that you might want to walk or cycle through.
Culture
The word trendy in London is almost synonymous with Shoreditch, which is an area located in Hackney. The area is filled with local street art, trendy bars, and great places to eat.
Simply exploring your locale will provide you with a multitude of instagrammable locations for you to pose by and take photos of. Have an explore of Fish Island and Hackney Wick and you’ll see some truly incredible pieces of art tucked away.
Check out this site to see which pieces you can find.
Part and parcel of visiting Shoreditch and its famous markets are the large crowds that are almost guaranteed to gather in the area at various points throughout the day. Our recommendation if you want a peaceful walk or explore around the area is to head there early in the morning.
Food and Drink
It would be wrong to talk about great locations for student accommodation, Hackney Wick especially, without mentioning the huge variety of places serving up food and drink in the area. Here are a couple of our favourites:
Just a 15-minute walk from our Hackney student accommodation, this dog-friendly cafe has been serving up a storm of great breakfast and cosy cafe vibes for almost 7 years now.
Besides their vast breakfast menu, you can also go here for some great evening grub. Their menu is based on what you’d expect from an American diner, so if that’s your kind of thing then head to The Breakfast Club!

If you’re looking for something different, Barge East definitely ticks that box! The owners have converted a 120-year-old Dutch barge into a restaurant that offers up a dining experience that you won’t forget.
If you think you might get a bit seasick then try out their lovely bankside gardens. Offering slightly different menus to the main restaurant, and serving up inventive street food rather than fine dining, the gardens are just as lovely. We recommend checking their website for opening hours as they change depending on seasonality.
Housing
A big problem with renting in London is that there is a lot of demand for housing and not enough of it to go around. This is especially tough on students where their choices are limited even more. Thankfully, our
Hackney Wick apartments are for students, and students only!
Located at the heart of Hackney Wick, this residence is just a 15-minute walk away from Queen Elizabeth Olympic park, home to campuses from many universities.
Using the great transport options linking hackney to central London, means you can travel to the city centre quickly, and with ease. So whether you just want to get to the other side of the city for a concert, or you’ve planned a day out in Soho, you’ll be able to get there problem free.
Now you’ve read our list, now might be the time to start looking for accommodation. Check out our rooms at Novel Wick Park today!
