Novel’s Go To Netflix Series

  |     |   Journal

Streaming giant Netflix is extremely popular and has an extensive library of series, films, and documentaries! Arguably, this year we have seen more or less everyone taking advantage of it, getting into some new series and documentaries while staying at home.

So, what to watch? There’s a huge selection to watch on Netflix, it is very often to get stuck down a rabbit hole of searching, still not be able to pick what to watch after an hour of browsing. Not to mention trying to agree on what to watch amongst friends! So, here at Novel Student, we have done our best to narrow your search, and picked some our favourite Netflix shows for students

From the return of the popular series The Crown and the second series of Sex Education to our latest favourite, The Queen’s Gambit – we have it all covered for you (including the perfect viewing spot at our Novel buildings, as all Novel’s studios and shared living areas have SMART Tv’s for you to stream them from!).

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
We know this has been around a while but this year we saw the release of season 7 and the return of the police department! Solving crimes, catching bad guys and getting up to all sort of antics! This hilarious series never fails to provide a giggle or 10! If you want an easy and fun watch after a hard day of studying, we recommend you switch on this easy-going series.

The Queens Gambit
Released at the end of October, The Queens Gambit has been a popular hit! The series follows the life of Beth, an orphan with an extreme prodigy for Chess. She wants to become the best chess player in the world, but she is also battling several mental health problems including drug and alcohol addiction. With one series and 7 episodes, this interesting story doesn’t take too long to unravel whilst also providing you with a thought provoking insight into her battle with mental health and addiction.

The Crown
A crowd pleaser for all, the fourth season of The Crown was released on the 15 November, featuring a famous next cast member; Gillian Anderson (as Margaret Thatcher). A fantastic actress who you may have seen in the scary but excellent series “The Fall”. This series touches on some significant events between 1977 and 1990 including the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, The Falklands War and the premiership of Margaret Thatcher. If you are into historical dramas, this is a must watch for you.

Sex Education
When the first series premiered on the 11th January 2019, Sex Education was a huge commercial success with over 40 million viewers. It’s no surprise series two was released a year after on the 17th January 2020. The series follows the life of Otis, an introverted and insecure teenager who is ambivalent about sex, even though his mother (again Gillian Anderson) is a sex therapist and encourages open conversations based on the subject. This comical series touches on friendships, love and homosexuality. It is extremely relatable and will draw you in instantly, an ultimate feel good series which we highly recommended!

The Stranger
A truly gripping mystery thriller, an unknown and mysterious stranger is devastating people’s lives by revealing people’s best kept secrets. The story is based around happily married family guy, Adam Price. One day the stranger approaches Adam and reveals a shocking secret which results in his wife going missing. We are saying no more! Again, a short series with 8 episodes, you will probably watch this all in one go, a gripping and addictive series with a great twist – enjoy!

We’d love to hear your reviews on the above and of course please comment below any of your recommendations!

Happy Streaming!
