The University

Birmingham City University makes a great choice for anyone that wishes to study in the UK’s second city.

Our Birmingham City University accommodation is conveniently situated near to the university itself. The internationally renowned academic institution, situated in the West Midlands of the United Kingdom, was initially established as the Birmingham College of Arts in 1843.

In 1971 the college was restructured, reformed and designated as a polytechnic. In 1992, the Further and Higher Education Act granted the institution university status along with the new name of the University of Central England in Birmingham.

In 2007,  the University changed its name again, taking on the name by which it is still known today: Birmingham City University.

It’s the second-largest university in Birmingham (after the University of Birmingham) and has three main campuses serving four faculties just a stone’s throw from our Birmingham City Uni Accommodation.

With over 27,000 students from 100 countries, many of which choose to stay at our Birmingham City Uni accommodation, the University is truly international.

It manages to draw in so many students from different countries thanks to the wide range of courses on offer. You can choose from Art and Design, Business, Computing, Education, Engineering, English, Healthcare, Law, Performing Arts, Social Sciences, and Technology.

So, when you stay with us at our Birmingham City University accommodation you’re sure to be rubbing shoulders with the finest, brightest minds that the UK has to offer!

Since 2011, the University has invested over £340 million into its campus facilities with three major new developments in its City Centre Campuses close to our Birmingham City Uni Accommodation..

In 2012 the Parkside Building for Design and Media courses opened. In 2015 it was the turn of the Curzon Building, which is the home of Business, Law and Social Science courses. It’s here in the Curzon Building that you’ll also find a cracking library (should you want to step out of your room at our Birmingham City uni accommodation!) and support facilities for any queries or difficulties that you might encounter. Finally, the new music building for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire opened in 2017.

As if three new buildings weren’t enough, there was also an extension to the City South Campus with specialist laboratories for new courses in Sport and Life Sciences, which opened in 2018.

The campus faculty buildings are all located within a short distance of our Birmingham City University Accommodation, so you’ve no excuse to be late for lectures!

An excellent reputation

Within six months of graduating from Birmingham City University, a whopping 97% of students are in employment or further study (Destination of Leavers from HE survey 2016/17).

This statistic places Birmingham City University in the top ten multi-disciplinary institutions in the UK.

Birmingham City University also offers a ‘Meet or Beat’ scholarship, incentivising students to achieve their full potential. If you hold an offer of a place at the university and ‘Meet or Beat’ their published entry requirements, you could be eligible for a £1,000 scholarship. Not bad at all!
